#Dear DJDIARY, #CAMILOFRANCO Wednesday, 9 July, 2014
Space Ibiza is known as the best club in the world, and it has an array of awards to justify this.
You don’t visit the White Island and bypass partying at Space; it’s like going to Italy and not trying gelato – it’s just wrong.
Locals and tourists have been partying at Space Ibiza for 25 years – they’ve seen Generation X crank out disco moves, Generation Y go bananas and Generation Z, the “the newbies” just start to come of partying age.
Now, imagine all these generations in the same venue. That’s one hell of a party. And come this Sunday, July 13, 2014, Space Ibiza is formally celebrating its 25 years with a killer line-up.
So who better to speak to than Space Ibiza resident DJ Camilo Franco.
This is #DJDIARYENTRY/SIX
Camilo Franco is one of Spain’s most renowned DJs. The Spanish-Colombian has held a residency at Space Ibiza since 2008, with a career spanning almost 20 years.
His current lifestyle sees him continuously jetting off as he leads Space Entertainment’s Ibiza On Tour and Ibiza Calling tours.
But not to worry, you’ll often catch him at Space Ibiza jamming to a mega crowd.
“Apart from playing in the finest club in the world for the whole summer, the best thing about being a Space Ibiza resident is travelling around the globe representing its brand,” Camilo says.
“It’s an honour for me and a pleasure, as I really enjoy going abroad and discovering new places and people.”
He will also be there this Sunday to celebrate Space Ibizia’s 25th birthday with the likes of Fatboy Slim, Erick Morillo, R3hab and Route 94 just to mention a few guest DJs.
And I literally mean a “few” because Space has over 40 DJs lined-up for this party, including “two very special guests” – shweet.
Ibiza is one of those places you have to visit to experience.
In Camilo’s words: “The crowd’s reaction when you play for them, when you give them your best…I can’t explain it, I think you can only experience it by yourself. I’d recommend every single music fan to visit.”
All you have to do is Google “Ibiza” and you will instantly be captured by the Islands beauty.
It’s a summer paradise, once done sun baking and dipping into that fresh crystal clear water – yes, it’s off to the clubs.
It’s the ultimate holiday destination for those who love the ocean and partying. Um, so basically everyone (of a certain demographic).
And the Island in general has been referred to as the Mecca of electronic music, in Camilo’s words: “Its variety and its richness are unmatchable and you can feel it any where on the island, with some of the worlds greatest DJs and producers around.”
“Ibiza is not just a natural paradise - it’s also a musical paradise!”
When Camilo isn’t traveling with the Space Ibiza brand or DJing on the White Island, he’s often in the studio working on a track.
His latest tune, “I Got” released in late May screams summer and has been climbing Beatports Top 100 Tech house since. So what was the production process like?
“As with every single new track, I always start with an idea. Then comes the style, what I wish to transmit with it,” Camilo describes.
“In this particular case, I built a musical base so the track could become a dance floor bomb, and then I looked for some fresh, attractive vocals to fit in it. That’s how ‘I Got’ was born.”
It’s evident that Camilo is proud to be a member of the Space Ibiza team; number one club in the world – someone pass that man a scotch.
But in all seriousness, Space Ibiza holds this prime position for a reason so I’ll let Camilo take it from here.
“Space Ibiza actually means electronic music, no feigning, no pretending, no faking. People who come to Space love electronic music, and you just feel it when you’re there.”

Q: With the European summer party season starting to kick off, do you prep your DJ set any differently to other parts of the world (e.g. England, US)?
A: Yes indeed! I always pick my tracks and develop my set’s structure according to the places where I go. I think this is more than important: I actually consider it a key part of a DJ’s job.
