Dear #DJDIARY, #SPACEIBIZA Monday, 4 Aug, 2014
Space Ibiza turned 25 last month. And how does the Best Global Club in the world celebrate 25 years of its existence? Well, they partae of course!
Space Ibiza has wiped out the award for Best Global Club a fair few times. In fact, they are the world’s most awarded club since 1989.
And 2013 was no exception either. DJ Mag, IDMA and Vicious Music Awards all awarded the club the number one position for 2013.
Obviously, Space Ibiza was strategically located as far away as possible from Australia; oh wait, no, that’s just Europe in general. 24 hours in flight and 21,000 miles later you’ll be in Spain – no biggie.
This is #DJDIARYENTRY/NINE
Seeing as we’re so far from Ibiza – we asked some DJ’s closer to Europe (in general) what makes Space Ibiza stand out as a club.
EDX – Residency at Space Ibiza in 2011
“Ibiza is a magic Island, a beautiful Island in the centre of Europe...over the years it became like a capital, like an island of the musical world, for dance music,” EDX says.
“Space is a great club it’s been there since day one, they have this amazing terrazzo that has this beautiful mood, all these people are at the beach during the day, then they refresh themselves and go to the club...everyone is happy, good vibe, and it’s all about the Island and Space.”
CAMILO FRANCO – Space Ibiza Resident
“Space Ibiza actually means electronic music, no feigning, no pretending, no faking. People who come to Space love electronic music…Its variety and its richness are unmatchable and you can feel it anywhere on the island.”
GELAB – Space Ibiza Regular
“It’s unique, you have to come and see it to understand why they choose it as the finest club in the world year after year. It’s not just about the technology, nor the production or the visuals, it’s about the people, their joy, their love of music.”
JAVI BORA – Space Ibiza Resident
“It’s just amazing! Space Ibiza has a unique atmosphere and an incredible sound system. Some of the greatest artists in the world play there. I strongly recommend every single electronic music fan to come, see and enjoy!”
MY DIGITAL ENEMY
“I’ve been there like 20 times when I was younger, used to go there to see Carl Cox and I remember the first time there was a closing party there and they just passed like this humongous sheet over the whole audience and blew some smoke underneath it and there was like girls, with angle grinders like grinding metal on their bikinis and stuff and it’s just like random shit like that,” Kieron from My Digital Enemy says with a laugh.
“The sound system is great, the club is really great too... my favourite time was Carl Cox, Fatboy slim and Green Velvet.”
Let’s finish this with – HAPPY 25TH BIRTHDAY SPACE IBIZA!
