#Dear DJDIARY, #MyDigitalEnemy Wednesday, 13 August, 2014
If you like them big phat dirty bass lines, then you have something in common with My Digital Enemy. And I say to you good Sir or Ma’am, you have a good ear.
The two blokes behind My Digital Enemy are UK boys, Serg and Kieron. And they’ve been working on various projects for over a decade.
This is #DJDIARYENTRY/11
They’re actually responsible for the chart topping House Mix ‘Waiting for a Star to Fall’, but they weren’t exactly called My Digital Enemy back then.
“We had a group called The Sunset Strippers,” Kieron describes of his partnership with Serg. “We did a track called ‘Waiting for a Star to Fall’ and it sort of went to number three on the UK charts, it was quite good actually.”
If you’re in tune with My Digital Enemy’s sound you are probably surprised they created that track (although I love that song) and this is what they said.
“’Waiting for a Star to Fall’ was more commercial, the sort of stuff we didn’t want to be doing, but it paid the bills.”
These boys love their edgy House Music and that’s exactly what you’ll be hearing from them.
“I think our sound is towards the tougher end of the House where it’s a little bit more of energy but I love to draw influences from those deep sounds because there is nothing better than a big, dirty bass line – I love it! It’s Amazing!“ Kieron laughs.
One of their latest tracks “Don’t Give Up" is a prime example of what Kieron is talking about. And it sits comfortably at number five on Beatport’s Top 100 House.
If you’re wondering how the boys met, well it goes a little bit like this...
“We sort of met when we were younger, we both used to be into heavy metal bans and stuff and Sergai played bass guitar and stuff,” Kieron says.
“We both went to Ibiza and got wasted and shaved our hair off and never, basically, looked back and started going to raves and stuff,” Kieron says in laughter.
Thankfully they didn’t “look back” because My Digital Enemy bring a great edge to the House Music scene.
#DJDIARY/Q&A
Q: If you could sit in on any other producers studio time, who would it be and why?
A: Oh I don’t know about that, it would be...probably someone like Disclosure or something and I’d just listen to what they were doing and rip it off and do it before them and try and make loads of money! (laughing)
Q: Who are you currently inspired by?
A: I really like some of the stuff going on in England at the moment like Friend Within, Disclosure, Hot Since 82...all those guys.
