As progressive house fans, Stereosonic this year was not worth the $210 price tag. Even the $175 one day ticket still wouldn’t satisfy our house cravings.
This upset us greatly though, because for years we have been waiting to see Alesso, who is one of our all time favourites. Long after we accepted that we would not be seeing Alesso this year, we recieved an unexpected email:
"CONGRATULATIONS Ellena, you have won two invitations to Nova's Red Room: Stereosonic Edition at Marquee with Alesso and Tiesto headlining!"
We were now getting to see Alesso AND Tiesto for FREE up close and personal!
We headed to Marquee Sydney with high spirits on Wednesday night (3 Dec 2014). We were greeted with a VIP lanyard and two free drinks to start our night off. While Will Sparks was poking his tongue out and doing his thing, we sat on the couches and enjoyed some mini bruschetta hors d’oeuvres to go with our lemon lime vodkas.
After Will Sparks, Peking Duk put a smile on everybody’s face with their unorthodox song choice of ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ and Darude’s ‘Sandstorm’.
It was then time for Alesso.
Right at the front, leaning on the DJ booth, we watched as Alesso blasted AxwellIngrosso’s ‘Can’t Hold us Down’, his own ‘Years’ and of course, ‘Heroes’ with a brilliant light show which made the uncontrollable jumping all the more memorable. After shaking the man’s hand, sweaty and out of breath, we headed to the bar for some drinks during Tiesto’s set.
As is his current style, it was all progressive with “Red Lights”, “Light Years Away” and “Wasted” from his new album, with various a Capella remixes.
Just as we thought the night was over, W & W made a surprise appearance and blew the roof off with Hardwell, R3hab and their own electro bangers to cap off what was an incredible experience and an unexpected treat. Thank you NOVA!
