For the first time in history, you will be able to tweet a message to Sydney’s Harbour Bridge on New Year’s Eve.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore confirmed that this year’s festival theme will be “inspire,” and is directed at getting people to think about how Sydney inspires them.
By using the Twitter hashtag #SydNYE throughout New Years Eve messages will appear on the bridge pylons.
Ms Moore asks that inspiring messages be tweeted: “I would hope people would send more than ‘I had a sausage roll for breakfast’ – I think that’s a bit boring,” she said.
“I think people would want to send something more worthwhile and interesting.”
City of Sydney staff will monitor incoming tweets to make sure racist or offensive tweets do not get displayed on the Harbour Bridge.
“I’m sure most sensible people will be able to judge what is offensive or racist – that’s what we’ll be look out for,” Ms Moore said.
