Review: Drake at Marquee Sydney

It was the Official Future Music after party that sold out within 48 hours of being announced. Why? Because Drake was hosting it. It all went down on Saturday, 28 February at Marquee Sydney where Drake quite literally made the crowd go wild.

Camera in hand, I entered the club a little too late – 1:15am. Too late, in that it was impossible to get on the dance floor of Marquee, the best position to see Drizzy in action. No one was giving up their position as they anxiously waited for Drake to appear. Energetic vibes filtered the room, occasionally a premature wave of screams erupted “it’s Drake” – false alarm. At 1.50am Drake finally appeared to a crowd that went ballistic, hands in the air, and cameras in the air – everyone wanted a photo or video of Drake doing his thang. This, however, would block the view of Drake from anyone about six metres away from the main stage.

Fans chanted songs in sync with Drake as he broke out into rap. One downfall worth mentioning was that Drake would hit the first chorus of a song and then finish, singing a song for a maximum of two minutes. In effect, this was a bit of an anticlimax. But at the end of the day – it wasn’t a concert. He was hosting an event, so it wasn’t too bad.

The night would hit a new level of high when Drake jumped on the decks, putting him in full view for everyone in Marquee. WIN! He rapped two songs with the crowd, before jumping off. But an excited crowd chanting, “One more! One more!” would see Drake jump up one more time to fulfil the crowds wish. This would be his last song for the night.

In total, Drake was on stage for about 30 minutes.

In the end - Drizzy goes olrite.
