In 2012, Australia introduced Melbourne duo Feenixpawl to the world with the breakout hit In My Mind. A tune that would see masses shout in sync at festivals and clubs around the world to the lyrics: “In my mind, in my head, this is where we all came from…”
And since, Aden Forte and Josh Soon have been churning out tunes that make the crowd go absolutely wild with productions like Universe, Together and Fuse. They are fast becoming Australia’s most prominent DJs and music producers performing at festivals like Electric Zoo, Stereosonic and TomorrowWorld.
The boys took time out of their hectic schedule for a little chat:
1. If you boys could sit in on any other producer’s studio time, who would it be and why?
I think that would be Axwell. He is widely known and respected as one of the best engineers in dance music today, and it would be a dream to be able to pick up a few things from the legend himself.
2. Who is a producer that you haven’t yet collaborated with, and would like to?
In terms of producers, I think collaborating with Alesso would be magical. In terms of vocalists, we’ve always wanted to do something with Florence Welch. Maybe both on the same track?
3. If you had to take a Gap Year off from touring, what would each of you do in your time?
Aden: I would probably sit on a yacht in Mediterranean sea for the European summer, and then probably spend the rest of the year in Japan exploring. That place is insane. I’m sure we’d have a whole lot of musical inspiration after a year doing that.
Josh: To be honest I’d probably do something similar. We just toured Japan and absolutely fell in love with that place. Due to the nature of our job we’ve been to so many places, but never really had the opportunity to explore them. Places like Japan, Brazil, Korea, Italy, France. I would love to go back as a tourist and stay for more than one night!
4. Where’s the oddest place you've worked on production?
We did some writing on Tiger Island in Indonesia recently, in a room with one wall looking out over the Java Sea with lightning storms in the distance. That was certainly inspiring and a strange place to make dance music.
5. Favourite all time gig?
We’ve had so many incredible gigs over the past few years. Stereosonic 2012 on the main stage in front of 50,000 people definitely stands out in our minds though. TommorrowWorld 2014 also has a place in our hearts as well.
6. All time favourite song to drop in a set?
Would have to be Eric Prydz Pjanoo. We still whip this out in sets today, if the time is right.
