Q&A sesh with Australia’s favourite DJ twins NERVO.
Miriam and Olivia Nervo began their music career as songwriters, eventually leading them to music production and DJing. The girls are responsible for co-writing David Guetta’s breakout smash, When Love Takes Over which would propel their career in the music industry. The song won a Grammy, and is just a glimpse of what the talented duo have to offer, besides a friggin good time.
I sat down with the ladies last month when they were in Australia to talk all things music:
1. Looking back at when you ladies were younger, did one of you influence the other to get into song writing? Or were you both mutual about it?
It was a very natural choice for both of us. Music was the only thing we truly loved. We started writing while we were in high school. At first it was just for fun and then when we got the opportunity to take it more seriously - move to the UK to work with a major publisher and management company, we didn't even need to ask each other to know that this is what we wanted to do.
2. Is there any one song in particular you have written that holds a special place?
It would have to be “When Love Takes Over,” as it was the first track we wrote for David Guetta, it won a Grammy, and it opened a lot of doors for us. It felt like that track was the turning point of our careers.
3. Favourite thing/s to do when you’re on home turf?
Cooking for our family and friends and just hanging out. We also like to escape to the beach for some quiet time.
4. If you threw a massive house party and could have anyone headline, who would it be?
We wouldn’t have just one headliner, we would rather invite all our DJ friends to just jump in and have a good time. Kind of like during WMC…We would have to invite a lot of buddies and peeps we admire. Some that spring to mind are Disclosure, Gorgon City, Pete Tong, Martin Garrix, Imogen Heap, Dimi and Mike (because they're so much fun!)... Ahh too many to choose from!
5. What do you enjoy most about coming back to Marquee Sydney?
Having our family and friends at our show.
6. Milk and Milo or Vodka Shots?
Vodka shots with milk and Milo perhaps? Yum! That would be like an Aussie version of a White Russian cocktail. YUM!
